Halloween Words Starting With C

The letter C provides many great words associated with Halloween. One of my favorites is clown.

When I was young, I often dressed up as a clown. It was an easy costume to put together, and it was fun wearing a brightly-colored, curly wig, and a big, red nose.

Clowns can also be very scary. Do you know the movie, “It”? This 1992 scary movie was taken from Stephen King’s novel where a person, dressed up as a clown, murders innocent children.

There are numerous scary clown movies out there. Other scary words starting with C that we associate with Halloween include cemetery, corpse, and cadaver.

What could be scarier than being in a cemetery on All Hallows Eve and a corpse rises out of its grave?!

Children love to dress up for Halloween in something scary. Get some inspiration from this list!

Negative Adjectives That Start With The Letter C

An adjective is a word that gives information about nouns which are people, places, and things. Let’s look at some negative C adjectives.

Catastrophic is a great word to describe something that is a disaster. It also happens to be the perfect word to describe a hiking trip I attempted one time.

My friend and I were going hiking in a less well-known area of a very large state park. We planned every detail and were super pumped!

Things, however, did not go our way. Our plan was to spend 10 days in total, with five given to hiking along a particular trail, camping along the way, and then 5 days to come back by another route.

The first night we arrived at the park office, and learned that there had been major flooding which had made rivers impossible to cross.

Determined to make a go of it, my friend and I headed out, but when we came to the first bridge we needed to cross, it was washed out.

We had to face the fact that we were not going to be able to do our trip, and we returned home. Our trip had been a catastrophe.

Negative Words Beginning With C To Describe A Person Or Thing

Having just the right word to describe someone or something can be very beneficial when you are trying to explain a situation to someone, or if you are wanting your friend to really understand a particular co-worker.

Among the words in this list is “chaotic”.

A chaotic situation is one that is completely crazy and totally unorganized. There is usually enormous confusion, and everything is going wrong.

There is a term, organized chaos, which typically refers to an event that has been planned, but where no one seems to know where they are to go, or what they are to do.

I have been to several events that could be described as organized chaos. I usually try to escape if that is at all possible.

One that sticks out in my memory was a wedding of a nephew of mine. From determining the guest list, to booking a venue, getting a caterer, and arriving on time to the actual wedding, it was one thing after another!

Putting a word to a feeling can help us to identify it and start working through it to get ourselves to a better place.

Captivity is a C word that suggests being locked away and unable to get out. This word can be used to being locked away with negative emotions. When you feel that way, you need to reach out to a friend.

Talking to a counselor can be very helpful. Reach out and get help because locking those negative feelings inside will only make things worse.

There may be times when you feel like you are carrying so many worries and concerns, and cannot get out from under them. A word to describe this is careworn.

Finding a way to lighten the load is key to moving forward positively. Talk to people who are close to you and who could perhaps share some of the load.

Funny C Words

I am ending my article on a humorous note with a look at some funny C words.

Let’s start with one of my favorites, clodhopper. This word makes me laugh because of the two words that are put together. A clod is a lump of earth, and hopper means someone who jumps, so put together you literally get a person who jumps over clumps of earth.

The term is used to refer to someone who is clumsy and boorish. Clodhoppers can also refer to heavy, strong shoes.

Have you ever heard of the word cockalorum? If you know someone who thinks they’re the best thing going then you could refer to them as a cockalorum. Such a person brags about themself. It is like a cockerel, another word for rooster, crowing.

Read the list below and see what words get you laughing!
